The Anderson LDS Business Association has a 4 part mission.
1. Recruiting Efforts
It is our goal to recruit the best and the brightest LDS business school candidates to come to Anderson. In our experience, we notice that Harvard has a very large LDS contingency and our goal is to recruit some of those students to come here instead. There are many attributes which make LDS applicants unique. For example, many are married and have children, a majority are from the Western U.S., most have served two-year missions, and with many there are common acquaintances. We feel that because of our common background and situations with LDS applicants, the club could be influential in persuading the top LDS candidates (identified by the admissions office) to come to Anderson.
2. Alumni Network
In line with the strategy at Anderson in general to forge stronger bond with alumni, we feel that the club could establish beneficial ties with Anderson LDS alumni. This could be instrumental in career search efforts in that because of the LDS connection, many Anderson LDS alumni would be very willing to help out Anderson LDS students. For example, the BYU network is very solid in a large part because the alumni have a common religious bond that implies shared experiences and backgrounds. We feel an Anderson LDS alumni network would be even stronger.
3. Speaker Series
There are many prominent LDS business leaders in the Los Angeles area, many of whom the club members associate with at church. The club would provide the context, motivation, and platform to invite these business leaders to speak on campus or to host D48’s.
4. Strengthen Bonds of Current Students
The 4th mission of the club is to strengthen the bond of the current LDS students at Anderson. To do this we plan on instituting social activities such as barbeques throughout the year and maybe even a yearly formal dinner. The club would also provide an online community through which the members could communicate throughout the year. We also plan to do joint ventures with the Anderson Jewish Association to strengthen bonds outside of the LDS network.
